About LESA

Our Mission

Increase the sense of safety and security throughout our community by gathering, processing and providing timely and accurate information.

Vision ONE

LESA’s vision is to be recognized as an integral partner in public safety and in the criminal justice community.

LESA, as a supplier of law enforcement support services, strives to:

  • Readily adapt to changing public safety needs
  • Continue to provide efficient and cost-effective services
  • Enhance a work environment that promotes employee satisfaction
  • Be prepared for security threats and disasters

Our History

LESA employs approximately 165 personnel in four divisions: Administration, Communications, Information Technology, and Records Management – any of whom work various shifts to provide 24-hour service for 9-1-1, dispatch, and records management.

LESA was formed as a result of an inter-local agreement between the City of Tacoma and Pierce County in 1974 to provide cost-effective consolidated police and sheriff emergency communications services. Consolidated records management and technology were added in 1978. Soon, other agencies realized they, too, could enjoy the benefits of consolidation, automation, economies of scale and regional services that LESA had to offer.

Today, LESA is governed by an Executive Board which provides legislative and policy direction. The board consists of:

Voting Members:
  • Mayor of Tacoma
  • County Executive
  • Police Chief of Tacoma
  • Sheriff of Pierce County
  • Citizen At-Large
Non-Voting Members:
  • Lakewood City Council Member
  • Suburban City Representative
  • Contract Cities Representative

The LESA Executive Board is currently comprised of (from left) Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar (for Lakewood City Councilman Doug Richardson), citizen at-large LeRoy Revelle, Tacoma Police Chief Don Ramsdell, Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg, Tacoma City Mayor Bill Baarsma, Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor, and University Place contract cities representative Jennifer Hales.
