  • Communication Support Officer, Communication Officer, and Dispatcher. Open continuous. Applicants apply once and test for all three separate positions. To be considered for any or all of these positions, applicants must submit a completed Waiver & Personal History Statement.

    Communication Support Officers work in the Emergency 9-1-1 Communications Center screening and processing non-emergency calls for law enforcement, fire and medical aid services.

    Communication Officers receive routine calls and emergency 9-1-1 calls for law enforcement and fire/medical aid agencies, relay information to appropriate dispatchers or communications centers and take police reports.

    Dispatchers process requests for police service and provide information to law enforcement agencies and field officers. Both positions provide other duties including, but not limited to, operating a personal computer and working in a confined area under stressful conditions.

    ** Effective June 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, LESA waives the Time Interval Personnel Rule 1.24.590 for applicants for Communications Center positions (Communication Support Officer, Communication Officer and Dispatcher) as we assertively test to fill vital public safety positions at the Communications Center. Any person who competes in an examination for a particular position and fails the examination will be allowed to retest at the next available testing date. **

General Hiring Process

Due to the confidential nature and demands of our positions, candidates must possess an exemplary personal history and pass a background examination, a self-assessment survey, an oral interview, a polygraph examination and a psychological evaluation as part of the pre-conditional offer of employment. Some positions are covered by a labor agreement.
