| At the intersection of LESA’s core values of honesty, respect and unity is the obligation to recognize and congratulate those who singularly exemplify those core values as they perform their duties and interact with the public, law enforcement and their peers. The Operational Guidelines urge all employees to strive for integrity, quality of service, courtesy, consideration, teamwork, responsiveness, innovation and technical excellence. As LESA’s key resource, LESA’s employees deserve special recognition when their performance of duty exemplifies these values to a superior degree. Accordingly, LESA developed a robust awards and recognition program to provide a means to recognize our many superstars.
In brief, LESA has two annual awards, seven individual awards, four unit (team) awards, and three incentive awards.
Annual Awards
LESA Legend Award. A formal award intended to recognize the type of service and commitment typically found after a long career at LESA or in substantial contributions or advancements having a significant impact on LESA’s future and strategic direction.
Crowning Achievement Awards. Formal awards presented to selected employees from an extensive and thorough nomination and selection process. Nominations may be submitted by any LESA employee for any of the five award categories: the Core Values Leadership Award, the Vision ONE Award, the Edison Award, the Superior Service Award and the Kathy Jo Porter Community Service Award.
Individual Awards
LESA Distinguished Service Citation. Awarded by the LESA Executive Board, this award is justified by an exceptional or sustained performance of duty, clearly above that normally expected, which has contributed materially to the delivery of services to the public and/or public safety community, or the success of a major effort or project or life-saving event.
Director’s Meritorious Service Commendation. Awarded by the LESA Director to an employee for service comparable to that required by the Distinguished Service Citation, but in a duty of lesser though considerable responsibility.
Extraordinary Achievement Award. Awarded by an Assistant Director to an employee whose acts or services must be accomplished or performed as above – such as contributing to an invention or improvement in design, procedure or organization; or for service that covers an extended period of time and whose performance is well above that usually expected.
Core Values Spot Award. Intended to provide instant recognition for an act or service performed in a manner above that normally expected.
Letter of Commendation. Issued by LESA Supervisors or above for specific achievement or sustained performance not arising to the level of an Extraordinary Achievement Award.
Certificate of Appreciation. Issued by the LESA Executive Board, LESA Director, Assistant Directors or Supervisors to those outside of LESA such as citizens, police officers or others.
Peer Commendation for Individual. Employees wanting to recognize the contribution of another employee are encouraged to complete a Peer Commendation Form, which is routed through the chain-of-command and placed in the employee’s personnel file.
Unit/Team Awards – Awarded to units or divisions within LESA
LESA Distinguished Team Citation. Awarded by the LESA Executive Board and LESA Director for exceptionally extraordinary and sustained contributions to LESA in a duty of great responsibility – contributing materially to the delivery of services to the public and/or public safety community, or the success of a major effort or project or life-saving event.
Director’s Meritorious Team Commendation. Awarded by the LESA Director to those units who performed similarly to the above, but to a lesser degree.
Extraordinary Team Award. To merit this award, the act should constitute a definite contribution to LESA, such as an invention or improvement in design, procedure or organization; or the service should cover an extended period of time during which a higher award may have been recommended.
Peer Commendation for Team. Employees wanting to recognize the contribution of a team or division are encouraged to complete a Peer Commendation Form, which is routed through the chain-of-command and placed in the employees’ personnel files.
Incentive Awards – Although a citation, commendation or favorable performance rating is in itself significant recognition for exceptional performance, an incentive award provides LESA management an additional means of recognizing employees when high-quality performance substantially exceeds performance standards. These incentive awards include: On-the-Spot Award (up to $10), Special Act Award ($10 up to $200) and a Time-off Award.
