Services
The Law Enforcement Support Agency (LESA) provides critical 9-1-1 communications, records and information technology services to 14 law enforcement agencies serving a critical geographic area and a diverse population of approximately 790,500 in urban, suburban and rural areas.
If you call 9-1-1, LESA takes your call and dispatches the appropriate officer response. If you renew a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) or need copies of an incident report, LESA handles your request. If you file an online police report, LESA made that possible. These are just a few of the many services LESA provides…
9-1-1 Communications, Records Management and Information Technology constitute the three LESA divisions that provide support services for law enforcement in Pierce County. With state-of-the-art dispatching and a vertically-integrated information system, LESA is a leader in the field of law enforcement support technology.
9-1-1 Communications encompass the Communication Officers who receive 9-1-1 calls and the Dispatchers who communicate directly with law enforcement in the field. The LESA Communications Center is one of the primary PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Point) in Pierce County. LESA answers 9-1-1 calls for the jurisdictions of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the cities of Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, Gig Harbor, Edgewood, Steilacoom, DuPont, Fircrest, Roy and Ruston. Additionally, because LESA is a Primary PSAP, we also answer 9-1-1 calls for fire and medical aid and are responsible for transferring those calls to Secondary PSAPs, such as Tacoma Fire and Pierce County Fire (Fire Comm). The LESA Communications Center truly is the first of the first responders! See the Calling 9-1-1 page for information about using 9-1-1 and the non-emergency number (253-798-4721).
Records Management provides 24-hour information services to criminal justice agencies. LESA Records also provides the following public services including concealed pistol license processing, public records requests, fingerprinting, criminal history inspections, accident report requests, visa clearance statements, and specialized forest product harvesting permits. LESA Records also prepares monthly crime reports for some jurisdictions and acts as the custodian of all investigative reports filed by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, Edgewood and Roy Police Departments. For LESA Records’ business hours and directions, or to access downloadable forms, see the Records Management page.
LESA’s Information Technology division provides innovative technology solutions for the law enforcement community. Developers, project managers, network engineers and client services technicians work in full partnership with our customers – law enforcement, corrections and criminal justice – to deliver integrated, interoperable information systems and responsive technical support. Additionally, LESA IT works closely with the LEADS (Law Enforcement Activity and Data System) consortium.
