Services

If you call 9-1-1, LESA takes your call and dispatches the appropriate officer response. If you renew a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) or need copies of an incident report, LESA handles your request. If you file an online police report, LESA made that possible. These are just a few of the many services LESA provides.

Based on a combined ranking of population served and total call volume, LESA is the largest primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Washington state with 1% (10,432) less calls and 19% (109,100) more in total population in 2007 than its closest counterpart, the Seattle Police Department Communications Center. As a PSAP, LESA provides 9-1-1 call-taking, emergency dispatch and a records/data channel for 11 police agencies servicing a 2007 population of 695,355 – or about 88% of Pierce County’s population, Washington’s second most populous county. LESA also provides comprehensive records management and information technology services for 16 agencies servicing a 2008 population of 770,885. In this capacity, LESA provides services to 96% of Pierce County’s population!

Services Overview

9-1-1 Communications encompass the Communication Officers who receive 9-1-1 calls and the Dispatchers who communicate directly with law enforcement in the field. The LESA Communications Center is one of the primary PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Point) in Pierce County. LESA answers 9-1-1 calls for the jurisdictions of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the cities of Tacoma, Lakewood, University Place, Gig Harbor, Edgewood, Steilacoom, DuPont, Fircrest, Roy and Ruston. Additionally, because LESA is a Primary PSAP, we also answer 9-1-1 calls for fire and medical aid and are responsible for transferring those calls to Secondary PSAPs, such as Tacoma Fire and Pierce County Fire (Fire Comm). The LESA Communications Center truly is the first of the first responders! See the Calling 9-1-1 page for information about using 9-1-1 and the non-emergency number (253-798-4721).

Records Management provides 24-hour information services to criminal justice agencies. LESA Records also provides the following public services including concealed pistol license processing, public records requests, fingerprinting, criminal history inspections, accident report requests, visa clearance statements, and specialized forest product harvesting permits. For LESA Records’ business hours and directions, or to access downloadable forms, see the Records Management page.

LESA’s Information Technology section provides innovative technology solutions for the law enforcement community. Developers, project managers, network engineers and client services technicians work in full partnership with our customers – law enforcement, corrections and criminal justice – to deliver integrated, interoperable information systems and responsive technical support.
